KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian contingent achieved their 36 gold-medal target at the Hanoi Sea Games thanks to the men's karate team today.

Malaysia's R. Sharmendran, S. Prem Kumar, H. Sureeya Sankar, S. Geerijaieswaran, Arif Afifuddin Ab Malik, V. Kueggan and G. Katish delivered Malaysia's 36th title of the Games by overcoming Indonesia 3-0 in the men's team Kumite final at Ninh Binh Sports Gymnasium.

Earlier, Malaysia defeated Laos (2-0) in the quarter-finals and Vietnam (3-0) in the semi-finals.

It was Malaysia's first men's team title since the 1993 Sea Games in Singapore.
