KUALA LUMPUR: A sim racing team from Southeast Asia finished fourth in the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual Championships today.

Axle Sports, founded by former Formula 1 driver Alex Yoong, fielded two teams in the competition.

The high-profile grid of racers included Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, Juan Pablo Montoya and a host of top eSports drivers.

In the LMP category, Flash Axle, comprising Malaysia's Naquib Azlan, Philippines' Inigo Anton, Singapore's Mohammad Aleef and Australia's Josh Purwien, finished fourth.

"It's an honour to finish fourth... a testament to the countless hours we had put in throughout the months," said Aleef.

Purwien, who raced from Perth, added: "To achieve this result is incredible. We have been preparing for this race for a long time, and it is great to see our hard work paying off in a big way."

In the GTE category, Axle, comprising Malaysia's Alister Yoong, Nabil Azlan, Indonesia's Avila Bahar and Italy's Davide Arduini, started well and was 10th from 15th on the grid.

However, after 12 hours of racing, the team was forced out of the race due to internet issues.
