SEPANG: Marco Bezzecchi is determined to continue chasing improvements at the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia which starts here tomorrow.

The Mooney VR46 Racing Team rider fractured his collarbone during a training session in Italy early last month which required surgery.

While it did not stop him from competing in the last three rounds in Mandalika, Phillip Island and Buriram, it did affect his performance.

Bezzecchi, however, showed glimpses of the form that has won him three races this season at the last round in Thailand a fortnight ago.

He placed fourth in the main race and sixth in the sprint in Buriram.

"In Thailand I was really fast in the race but made some mistakes and lost time, but I was consistent," said Bezzecchi in the pre-event presser at Sepang today.

"I think here (Sepang) I can be fast and consistent but of course the weather will be key. I will try my best to be strong.

"I am not at 100 per cent (fitness) yet, as soon as I put some stress on my shoulders, my neck and back create a lot of problems."

Mathematically, Bezzecchi (310 points) still has a shot at the title but knows that chasing down leader Francesco Bagnaia (389) and second-placed Jorge Martin (376) will not be easy with only three rounds remaining this season.

"It is still possible but of course really tough because they are both very quick and I am not fully fit," he added.

"But if I do get a good result I will go on the podium like this (cups both ears)."
