KUALA LUMPUR: Moto3-bound Syarifuddin Azman hopes to remain consistent after scoring his third podium of the season at the FIM JuniorGP World Championship in Portugal on Sunday.

Syarifuddin of SIC Racing did well to finish second at the Portimao leg (fifth round) of the series behind Team Estrella Galicia's Jose Rueda. Cuna de Campiones' Adrian Cruces completed the podium.

The result propelled Syarifuddin, fifth before the weekend race, into second position overall on 97 points. Rueda leads the championship with 178 points.

Syarifuddin, who notched a double-podium at the Barcelona round in June, is eyeing more in the remaining four races this season. The 20-year-old has notched five top-five finishes so far this season.

"I would like to dedicate this podium trophy to all Malaysians, especially my family and wife," said Syarifuddin today.

"It was a very hot race, and my target was to remain in the front group. I almost lost them (group) but was able to fight my way back in.

"It was close at the end, but a number of riders made mistakes at turn one of the final lap, and I was able to capitalise.

"My goal is to remain consistent until the end of the season."

Syarifuddin is expected to make the step up to the Moto3 World Championship next season.

The next round of the series will be held at San Marino on Sep 1-3.
