MERCEDES-AMG Petronas team principal Toto Wolff has made it known that his team will be back with a vengeance next season after being "robbed" of the Formula One drivers' title this year.

Mercedes clinched an unprecedented eighth consecutive constructors' championship title this season but saw their driver Lewis Hamilton losing what would have been his eighth drivers' title to Max Verstappen following controversial implementation of the safety car rules during the final lap at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last week.

Wolff, while content to secure the constructors' title, admitted that losing the drivers' title after leading for the majority of the race was a bitter pill to swallow.

"We are closing this season with great satisfaction having won our eighth (constructors') championship," said Wolff in a video interview with Malaysian media on Friday.

"This is something we can all be proud, all of you in Malaysia, everyone at Petronas and as well as here at Mercedes.

"Today is a day of celebration but of course those final moments of the last GP, it just doesn't go away. We were really robbed of that victory."

According to Wolff, the incident has sparked a fire within the team and he assured that they will throw everything but the kitchen sink to ensure that Hamilton is back on top next season.

"Usually (in previous seasons) I am never confident, we always question ourselves and ask whether we have done a good enough job (to win)," he said.

"But after what has been taken away from us in Abu Dhabi, it is the first time in my nine years with Mercedes Petronas that I feel that 'you know what, whatever it takes in the next few months (pre-season), we'll bring it,'

"All the resources (will) be given, we are opening the floodgates of innovation. We will just be throwing everything we have.

"We will provide him (Hamilton) with a car and a power unit that is just amazing and mind boggling.

"We have all the energy in us, we have this ultimate motivation to show everyone that he is the best driver on the planet.

"He was (the best) in 2021 and he will be in 2022, we will prove that to the world."

Wolff added that he is so fired up that he wished there was no end of season break this year, so the team can immediately get back to racing.

The new season is scheduled to start with the Bahrain GP on March 18-20.
