KUALA LUMPUR: Honda's Yuzy Idemitsu Team's Azroy Hakeem Anuar bagged his maiden Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship CP150 class title today with a well calculated display of riding in the final round in Sepang.

Azroy, who trailed championship leader Ahmad Afif Amran of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha CKJ Racing by eight points, going into the 10th and final round, was not in a rush to assert his authority on the race which played out in bright and sunny conditions.

Despite starting from pole, Azroy bade his time and planted himself into the middle of the front group during the early stages while allowing the rest to jostle for the lead.

But he was right up there when it mattered and set himself up to launch a perfectly timed attack a few hundred metres from the finish.

Azroy hit the line in 14 minutes and 13.682 seconds to snatch both the race win and also the riders' title.

Yamaha GenBlu AHM Motor Sports' rider Ahmad Fazrul Sham crossed the line a close second (+0.018s) while Ipone Yamaha YY Pang Racing Team's Izzat Zaidi Salehan (+0.20s) completed the race podium. Afif settled for fifth (+0.131s) on the day.

Azroy emerged overall champion after accumulating 163 points this season with Afif coming in second on 157 points. Onexox TKKR Racing Team's Akid Aziz was third (135 points).

Azroy was visibly delighted to win the title after another Covid-19 disrupted season. "It was a challenging race as there were so many strong Yamaha riders," he said.

"I had no choice but to keep myself tucked into the group and stay out of trouble.

"In fact, this entire season has been very challenging. We could not maintain our momentum when the races were postponed due to the pandemic.

"But overall I am just grateful that our sport has been able to continue despite the obstacles we have faced."

It is the second year in a row that a Honda rider won the overall CP150 riders title after Helmi Azman ended Yamaha's dominance in the premier class last year.

The overall team title, however, went to Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor who secured 244 points overall this season.

Meanwhile the Wira KBS category witnessed Aqil Danial Nasrul (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha - 31 Racing) securing the lightweight class title after winning the final race in 10:03.201s.

Aqil's teammate Danial Johan crossed the line a close second (+0.072s) while Castrol Power1 Honda Team's Harith Haziq Zamri came in third (+0.141s).

Aqil ended the season 148 points with Castrol Power1 Honda Team's Irfan Haykhal Amidi in second (133 points). Harith was third overall on 131 points.

With Adib Rosley (Ipone Yamaha YY Pang Racing Team) having secured the title yesterday, the CP125 class season ender was a more open affair which Onexox TKKR Racing Team's Hafiza Rofa won in 11:08.299s.

Firdaus Mohd Hamdan (Moto1 Koyoko Honda KC Racing Team) and Syafiq Rosli (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor) settled for second (0.092s) and third (+0.337s) on the day.

CP125 champion Adib, who ended the season with 165 points, was content to finish 11th (+2.264s) on the day.

Syafiq (145 points) and Hafiza (143 points) ended the championship in second and third position respectively.
