AMID the coronavirus pandemic, swimmer Cindy Ong is aiming
for some "on top of the world" feeling.

She hopes to set a new masters mixed relay world record with Vladimir Morozov after coming to know the Russian.

Cindy became acquainted with Morozov, a world-record holder in the open category 100m individual medley (short course) through mutual friend Peter Ford.

Morozov, who won an Olympic bronze in London in 2012, had also bagged six world championship (long course) medals.

Cindy said they have been talking about teaming up to smash a masters world record.

Englishman Ford, who is also a world-class masters swimmer, could also feature in the lineup.

Cindy, who turned 36 on Sunday, received a surprise birthday wish from the 28-year-old Morozov via video, which she posted on her Instagram page (@cindy_ong_swimmer).

"Hey Cindy, happy birthday. Congrats on all the gold medals. We should break a world record together," said Morozov.

The Ipoh-born Cindy, who won five gold and two silver medals at the Gwangju World Masters Championships last year, is keen on teaming up with the Russian.

"I want to try and break one world record with him in the (mixed) relay.

"He has not swum in masters events yet, but he is already eligible," said Cindy.

"Ford, Morozov and I can team up, but we have to figure out the other team member.

"We need one more girl. And then we can look at the possibility of a world record.

"I am not sure which relay event would be most suitable, but for now it looks like the freestyle discipline is most likely.

"The world record attempt could be done anytime before the 2022 World Masters Championships (Japan) at any Fina sanctioned event.

"I may have to travel to the United States because they (Ford, Morozov) are based there."

Masters swimming is club-based, thus swimmers from different nationalities are free to team up for relay events.
