PETALING JAYA: FAM launched the professional Referees Academy at a hotel in Petaling Jaya on Thursday.

Datuk S. Sivasundaram, the chairman of the referees committee, said the academy will produce calibre referees for the Super League. The inaugural batch (2023-2025) will comprise 30 referees, including three females aged between 20 and 32.

"They will undergo rigorous assessments covering fitness, health, a comprehensive understanding of the laws of the game, and proficiency in English literacy.

"The curriculum encompasses nine modules designed to equip referees with the necessary skills and knowledge.''

He said five standout referees from this group will undergo training in the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system.
