KUALA LUMPUR: It seems Oman did not need a "good pitch" to play well as they still beat Malaysia 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Tuesday.

Oman coach Jaroslav Silhavy said the quality of the field was not at its best and it affected both his team and the Malaysian side.

This, he felt, prevented Oman from delivering a better performance.

"I think this issue (the pitch) posed a problem for both teams, and it's quite difficult to play on such a surface," said Silhavy at a post-match press conference.

Days before the match, netizens had posted photos of the pitch with brown patches following an Ed Sheeran concert at the National Stadium on Feb 24.

Malaysian Stadium Corporation managed to improve the pitch but grass was seen being torn off the pitch during Malaysia's match against Oman.
