KUALA LUMPUR: Coach Kim Pan Gon believes Harimau Malaya still have a chance of qualifying for the third round of the World Cup qualifiers despite the 2-0 home defeat to Oman today.

Malaysia were mediocre and inconsistent throughout the match as Oman dominated and scored a goal in each half through Omer Al Malki (45th+5) and Mohamed Mubarak Al Ghafri (90th+4).

"I apologise to the fans (for the defeat).

"The players fought hard and did not give up. I am proud of the players.

"I still believe we have a chance of qualifying for the third round, and we will fight on.

"The only thing we can do is keep on fighting."

With the defeat, Malaysia are third with six points in Group D, while Kyrgyzstan, who defeated Taiwan 5-1 today, and Oman occupy the top two positions with nine points each.

Malaysia will complete their group campaign against Taiwan and Kyrgyzstan in June.
