KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor have hinted that interim coach Nidzam Jamil may only be temporary as they seek to hire an experienced coach to guide the team in the upcoming M-League season.

The Red Giants have shortlisted four coaches, including three foreigners, to replace Tan Cheng Hong, who has joined Thai side Police Tero.

Selangor, who finished runners-up last season in the Super League, hope to make a mark in the Asian Champions League 2 (ACL 2). It will be their first Asian-level club competition since 2026.

Selangor CEO Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon revealed that the three foreign coaches on their list have never coached a team in the M-League.

"These coaches are new. Frankly, we have received many CVs since the departure of Cheng Hoe. Nidzam, however, is still on the shortlist for the full-time coaching job," said Johan.

Nidzam is on his second stint as interim coach of Selangor. He was also the caretaker following the resignation of German Michael Feichtenbeiner in late 2022.

Johan reiterated that Nidzam is the only local candidate for the job, dismissing rumours of Kedah coach Nafuzi Zain being on the list.

"Nafuzi is a successful coach, but we are considering only Nidzam at the moment.

"The new coach will have to understands our system and philosophy, adopted since 2022. No other local coaches, except Nidzam, truly understands our goal.

Selangor have also received the CVs of Kenya coach Engin Firat, former Kuwait coach Rodion Gaanin and former Thailand coach Winfried Schaefer for consideration.
