KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to allocate a RM5 million for Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) following Harimau Malaya's excellent performance against South Korea in Asian Cup group match.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it is to manage the national team and matters under the purview of the body.

He congratulated the players for their fighting spirit, holding the two-time champion in a 3-3 draw yesterday.

"It was an outstanding display by the Malaysians against such a strong team.

"Despite losing the first two games, they showed strength and fighting spirit in their last game," he told reporters at Desa Sri Hartamas.

Following the request by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, the government has agreed to the allocation for FAM," said Anwar, who is also finance minister.

He then proceeded to Masjid Al-Ubudiah, Bukit Segambut, for Friday prayer.
