DOHA: Harimau Malaya defender Shahrul Saad said they are determined to record their first Asian Cup victory since 1980 when they face Bahrain in a Group E match tomorrow.

Malaysia needs to bounce back after their 4-0 loss to Jordan in the opening game on Monday to re-ignite their last-16 hopes.

"We are mentally and physically ready for this game. The mood in camp has returned to normal, and we are determined to do something special tomorrow," said Shahrul, who has 55 caps and five goals, today.

"Harimau Malaya have the quality to do something. We must score early goals and defend well against Bahrain.

The world No. 86 Bahrain are the favourites to beat Malaysia tomorrow. Bahrain's Moses Atede probably will offer some advantage to the Dilmun Warriors as he has played in the M-League.

"Moses might offer some advantage, but Bahrain do not have to rely on him. They have many well-built quality players, who have good technique and overall quality.

We have to stick together, defend stoutly and attack. We cannot allow them to dictate the pace of the game.

Meanwhile, Bahraini winger Ali Madan wants to inflict pain on Malaysia by scoring goals.

"We want to score as many goals against Malaysia," said Ali.

"Malaysia have players with pace. We need to be cautious."
