KUALA LUMPUR: The national football team's recent victories in the World Cup qualifiers have earned them a healthy amount of Fifa ranking points.

Malaysia defeated Taiwan 1-0 yesterday and had earlier on Nov 16 beaten Kyrgyztan 4-3 in their group D encounters.

The win against Taiwan earned the squad 10.65 points while the win over Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia's first win over a top-100 ranked nation in the qualifiers, was rewarded with 15.49 points.

Malaysia has now gained an additional 26.14 points after the two wins.

According to the football-ranking.com website, only Comoros (30.9) and Romania (26.2) have earned more points so far this month.

The additional points sees Malaysia moving up seven slots to No 130 in the world rankings.

The upcoming Asian Cup in Qatar (Jan 12-Feb 10) will offer Malaysia another chance to earn valuable rankings points.
