KOTA BARU: Police have beefed up security to prevent any unwanted incidents during football matches at the Sultan Muhammad IV stadium.

Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Mohamad Zaki Harun said the move to enhance security started on Saturday during the football match between Kelantan FC and PDRM FC.

"The recent tense situation which occurred at the stadium during the match between Kelantan and Perak FC has prompted police to step up security to prevent a repeat incident.

"The tight security will continue for the coming football matches held in the state.

"Apart from deploying more police personnel to the stadium, we will not hesitate to send in FRU members to assist the police," he said.

Zaki described Wednesday's tense moments as not serious and under control.

There were tense moments at the Sultan Muhammad IV stadium here on Wednesday as more than 100 football fans of Kelantan and Perak FC were involved in a confrontation of sorts following the former's defeat in a Premier League match.

No one was injured in the incident, which is believed to have started when a fan from one side provoked the other side.

Plastic bottles and other items could be seen being thrown as things became heated.

The incident happened inside the stadium about 6.30pm after Perak beat Kelantan FC 2-1.

The incident also saw the windscreen of a tour bus rented by Perak fans damaged when Kelantan fans were believed to have struck it with stones.
