KUALA Lumpur City FC hope to get full support from the relevant authorities to host their group in the AFC Cup.

The Malaysia Cup champions are in Group H with Singapore's Tampines Rovers and Indonesia's PSM Makassar.

Myanmar's Shan United or Ayeyawady United will make up the group.

Winners of the respective groups and the team with the best runners-up record will advance to the zonal semi-finals.

The group stages start on May 18 and end on June 30. However, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) have yet to finalise the centralised venues for the groups.

KL chief executive officer Stanley Bernard hopes to get support from the KL City Hall, the Federal Territories Ministry and other relevant agencies to host their group.

"We are ready to host Group H. We have the facilities for it. If we can get support from the authorities, we can bring the hosting level several notches higher and show the world that Malaysia is ready to hold tournaments in the pandemic era," said Stanley, who picked Tampines as the group favourites, yesterday.

"It is our first appearance in the AFC Cup, so we want it to be special. It would be great for our fans to watch the team play in the AFC Cup in KL.

"Furthermore, we are playing teams from Singapore and Indonesia, which will bring more excitement to the fans. There is still time to bid for the hosting rights.

"It is still OK if we do not get it. Travelling from one country to another for matches will indirectly help the players bond as a team."

On KL's new training venue, Stanley said the team are training at the Jalan Raja Muda Abdul Aziz Mini Stadium in Kampung Baru.

"We had several options for a training pitch. However, we decided to pick the mini stadium in Kampung Baru as it has excellent facilities for training.

"Furthermore, it is located in the heart of KL, so our fans can watch us train," he added.
