KUALA LUMPUR: Eight-time Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) will be hoping for a better outing in their seventh appearance in the Asian Champions League (ACL).

The Southern Tigers are drawn in Group I with four-time J-League champions Kawasaki Frontale and eight-time Chinese Super League winners Guangzhou FC.

The fourth team in the group is either former champions Ulsan Hyundai of South Korea or Thailand's Port FC, who will face off in a play-off match.

Matches will be played in centralised venues.

The winner of each group and the three best runners-up from each region will advance to the round of 16 of the knockout stage.

JDT hope to host their group at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri to boost their hopes of reaching the last 16.

The group stage starts on April 15 and ends on May 1.

JDT have yet to reach the last 16 in the ACL.

Meanwhile, Super League runners-up Kedah and Malaysia Cup winners Kuala Lumpur City will be playing in the AFC Cup.

Kedah, in their fourth appearance, are in Group G with 2019 Indonesian League 1 champions Bali United, Philippines' Kaya FC-Iloilo, who won the 2021 Copa Paulino Alcantara.

The fourth team will be either Visakha FC of Cambodia or Laos' Young Elephants.

Meanwhile, KL City will face Singapore's Tampines Rovers, who finished fourth in the S-League, former Indonesia Cup winners PSM Makassar and either Shan United or Ayeyawady United from Myanmar in Group H.

The group winners will advance to the zonal semi-finals alongside the team with the best runners-up record. The group stage is scheduled from May 18-June 30
