KANSAS CITY: Wan Kuzain Wan Kamal made history when he became the first player with Malaysian roots to score in Major League Soccer (MLS) as he helped his team Kansas City to defeat Minnesota United 4-1 here today (Monday).

After making his debut for the team earlier against Columbus Crew SC, Kuzain made sure that he would stamp his mark on his second appearance in MLS.

It only took him 17 minutes to make history by getting on the scoresheet for his first professional goal after he came on as a substitute for Yohan Croizet in 18th minute.

The goal came about after a scramble in the penalty area as Kuzain reacted swiftly to score with his left foot after receiving a low cross in from the right from Graham Zusi to put Kansas back in the lead.

With the win, Kansas extended their unbeaten run to five matches, with their other goals coming from Daniel Salloi, Cristian Lobato and Diego Rubio.

"It feels just great compared to when I signed my contract with Kansas City and it’s just fantastic,” said Kuzain after the match.

"It is so very meaningful and I hope to enjoy even more success after this.”

Kuzain also admitted that initially he was uncertain if his effort during the goalmouth melee would be a goal.

"I made a good shot and it was through Peter Vermes that I found out I had scored when I heard him shouting goal,” said Kuzain.
