SEREMBAN: Sime Darby FC coach Ahmad Yusof believes his charges were lucky to get away with a 1-0 win over Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) FC in the first leg of the FAM Cup final last night.

Ahmad admitted that his players were not at their best yesterday but were able to make it count when it mattered at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.

Sime Darby's Mohd Zul Fahmi Awang scored the winning goal in the 53rd minute.

“UKM had dominated the match but failed to capitalise on their chances and even missed a penalty. We were quite lucky,” said Ahmad.

“However, we cannot be comfortable with this lead as there are still another 90 minutes (in second leg) to be played.

“Although we will be playing at home at the MBPJ Stadium (for second leg), I do not expect an easy match.”

UKM coach Sulaiman Hussin said his team were made to pay for a number of simple mistakes they made.

“We should have been able to level the match if not for the missed penalty by Mohd Rafizi Mohd Hamdan. The players should have kept their calm and remained focused,” said Sulaiman.

“We still have one more match to play and although it will be at their (Sime Darby's) home ground, I believe we still have a chance to win it.

“We will use the week we have before the match to improve on our weaknesses.”
