PARIS: Remco Evenepoel has undergone surgery on a fractured right collarbone, his Soudal-Quick Step team announced on Sunday.

"Remco Evenepoel underwent surgery on Saturday for a fractured collarbone sustained in the crash," said the team adding the operation was carried "without complication" and that Evenepoel " has been discharged to recuperate."

The time trial world champion broke his collarbone and shoulder blade as he slid off at a downhill corner at the Tour of the Basque Country on Thursday.

A dozen riders went down like dominos, including defending Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard who suffered rib and collarbone fractures and lung damage. — AFP
