KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's aspiration to secure a spot in their first-ever T20 World Cup next year came to an end following a defeat to hosts Nepal by six wickets at the Asia Final in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

This followed their earlier 32-run loss to world No. 20 Oman in Group A.

The national cricket team won the toss and chose to bat first, managing 165 runs while losing nine wickets.

World No. 16 Nepal displayed excellent form, reaching 166 runs with only four wickets lost and 12 balls to spare.

Malaysia's wicketkeeper Syed Aziz Syed Mubarak was the top performer, contributing 68 runs from 49 balls with eight fours and two sixes.

Malaysia will conclude the group fixtures against Singapore on Thursday.

Team manager Amy Mokhzani said Malaysia performed well by recording 164 runs.

However, he noted that the Nepali team, being more experienced, proved to be a formidable opponent.

"Our batters and bowlers need to work harder to compete with the top teams in Asia.

"Although our dream of qualifying for the T20 World Cup has faded, we aim to end our campaign on a high note by defeating Singapore in our final match," said Amy.
