KUALA LUMPUR: Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun capped their impressive week in Jakarta with a second-place finish at the Super 1000 Indonesia Open.
On Sunday, despite starting the final on the right foot, the Malaysians world No. 20 found China's Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang too hot to handle, as they succumbed 19-21, 21-16, 21-12 in the men's doubles final.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun, who have never made it past the first round in all five of their previous Super 1000 tournaments, can still take heart from their performance, especially after beating the likes of South Korea's world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae, and homesters Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani in front of a packed Istora Senayan en route to the final.
Wei Keng-Wang Chang, one of the favourites to win gold at this year's Paris Olympics, pocketed US$96,200 (RM450,000) for winning the title, while Wei Chong-Kai Wun settled for US$45,500 (RM213,000).
Lee Zii Jia remains the last Malaysian badminton player to win a Super 1000 title in the World Tour era following his All England success in 2021.
