KUALA LUMPUR: It was a disastrous day for Malaysia at the French Open when top shuttlers Lee Zii Jia and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah crashed out in the opening round on Wednesday.

World No. 10 Zii Jia shockingly went down 21-15, 21-19 to Magnus Johannesen of Denmark as he continued to be haunted by a poor record in Paris.

He has never gotten past the second round since his debut in 2019.

Pearly-Thinaah were unable to find the inspiration they badly needed at the site where they secured their biggest victory in 2022, losing 18-21, 21-12, 21-16 to Zhang Shu Xian-Zheng Yu of China.

To add more embarrassment, another women's pair Lim Chiew Sien-Vivian Hoo were sent packing by Australia's Setyana Mapasa-Angela Yu, something which is unheard of.

They lost tamely 21-15, 21-15.
