KUALA LUMPUR: Eogene Ewe believes he is heading in the right direction to becoming a complete shuttler.

On Sunday, the 19-year-old rose above the rest to clinch the National Under-21 Championships title in Kuantan after overcoming Selangor's Ng In Qin 21-12, 21-12 in the final, gaining revenge for last year's quarter-final defeat at the National Under-18 Championships.

When contacted by Timesport, Eogene said he has improved a lot since he was promoted to the national senior squad last year.

Just last week, Eogene made his senior team debut at the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) in Selangor.

The Penang-born played a key role as Malaysia went on to reach their third consecutive BATC final before losing 3-0 to China.

"Winning this tournament (Under-21) is a huge boost for me. I know there are still weaknesses that I must improve," said Eogene.

"My game has progressed since joining the senior squad last year."

While he still has a long way to go, Eogene has set his eyes on playing in bigger tournaments, like the Thomas Cup Finals in May.

"If given the opportunity, I would like to play in bigger tournaments.

"I will not on gain invaluable experience but also improve my overall game." Eogene added.

Meanwhile, top seed Siti Nurshuhaini Azman lived up to her billing by seeing off Selangor's Loh Zhi Wei 21-12, 21-17 in the women's singles final.
