KUALA LUMPUR: China's world No. 1 Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang showed fans the true meaning of a comeback at the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, on Sunday.
Trailing 3-10 in the deciding game, Wei Keng-Wang Chang clawed back to deny India's world No. 2 Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty from claiming the top prize at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, winning 9-21, 21-18, 21-17.
Interestingly, a day earlier in the semi-finals, Satwiksairaj-Chirag also staged a stunning comeback, saving six game points in the second game to see off reigning world champions Kang Min Hyuk-Seo Seung Jae of South Korea 21-18, 22-20.
"This time it's our turn to stage a comeback," Wei Keng said proudly after the match.
According to Wang Chang, they were reminded of a similar scenario during the All England last year, where they won after trailing.
"When we were behind, I reminded myself of the All England match last year.
"We have a lot of respect for the Indian pair and know how strong they are, so we focused on winning one point at a time," he added.
Wei Keng-Wang Chang's previous Super 1000 title was the China Open last year.
