KUALA LUMPUR: After Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director apologised yesterday, a number of national players have followed suit after their disappointing performances at the Petronas Malaysia Open this week.

Among those who have openly apologised includes national singles player Ng Tze Yong and mixed doubles player Chen Tang Jie.

Tze Yong, who was forced to retire during his opening round match against Koki Watanabe (Japan) due to a back injury, said he is determined to bounce back after recovering.

"I want to apologise to all fans and sponsors for the unsatisfactory results at the Malaysian Open," said Tze Yong on social media yesterday.

"I will focus on recovering and improve on my performances in my upcoming tournaments."

Tze Yong's injury will see him miss the India Open, which starts on Tuesday, as well as the Indonesia Masters (Jan 23-28).

Tang Jie also expressed regret over his sub-par performances at the Malaysia Open.

"I would also like to apologies to all sponsors and all the Malaysian badminton fans," said Tang Jie on Facebook.

"I promise to continue fighting and deliver better performances in my upcoming tournaments. Thank you."

Tang Jie and partner Toh Ee Wei lost 24-22, 21-14 to Japan's Hiroki Midorikawa-Natsu Saito in the second round.

Rexy apologised yesterday and took responsibility for the national shuttlers poor overall showing at the Malaysia Open.

It was the second year in a row that Malaysian players failed to make the semi-finals of their home tournament.
