KUALA LUMPUR: National men's singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong is out of next week's Super 750 India Open.

The BA of Malaysia (BAM) on Friday confirmed the 24-year-old has sustained a muscle tear and will need at least two weeks of rest.

It is also uncertain if Tze Yong will be fit for the Super 500 Indonesia Masters from Jan 23-28. However, his coaches will closely monitor his progress.

Tze Yong's Olympic qualifying campaign took a huge blow on Wednesday when he was forced to retire midway through the first game in his first-round Malaysia Open match against Japan's Koki Watanabe.

On Thursday, BAM coaching director, Rexy Mainaky, said it was premature to speculate the extent of the injury.

However, he noted that coaches will have to re-look his tournament schedule to ensure Tze Yong does not lose out on valuable Olympic ranking points.

Speaking to the press on Friday, BAM secretary Kenny Goh said: "I just got off the phone with men's singles coach Tey Seu Bock, and he has confirmed that Tze Yong has sustained a muscle tear in his lower back.

"He is out of next week's India Open, but we have not withdrawn him from the Indonesia Masters. We will monitor his progress.

"He will need about two weeks of rest."

It also remains to be seen whether Tze Yong will recover in time to play in the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) in Selangor on Feb 13-19.

Separately, independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia has accepted the national body's invitation to play in the team event, a qualifier for the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in April.
