KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Tze Yong survived another gruelling encounter to reach the semi-finals of the Super 500 India Open in New Delhi on Friday.

The world No 60 bounced back from a first game blemish to overcome Ireland's world No 45 Nhat Nguyen 9-21, 21-8, 21-16 in 69 minutes in the quarter-finals.

The Malaysian plays India's Lakshya Sen for a place in the final today.

World No 17 Lakshya is a rising star in the sport, who surprised the badminton fraternity by winning a bronze at last year's World Championships in Spain.

It should be an interesting battle between Lakshya and Tze Yong, who announced his arrival to the scene with three titles at lower-tier events last season.

In the mixed doubles, top seeds Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing thrashed Russia's Konstantin Abramov-Anastassia Akchurina 21-10, 21-14 to set up an all-Malaysian encounter against Chen Tang Jie-Peck Yen Wei in the semi-finals

Chan Peng Soon-Valeree Siow, however, failed to progress after losing 21-14, 21-13 to Russia's Rodion Alimov-Alina Davletova.

Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi also made the men's doubles semi-finals. They play Indonesia's top seeds Mohammad Ahsan-Hendra Setiawan.

Women's doubles Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien, however, crashed out after a 21-19, 11-21, 21-16 loss to Russia's Olga Morozova-Akchurina.
