KUALA LUMPUR: A week ago, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani impressed by going far in the Denmark Open in Odense, reaching the semi-finals. Today, it was a quick exit at the French Open.

The world No 19 went down 22-24, 22-20, 21-17 to compatriots Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi in the first round of the French Open in Paris.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi, who were quarter-finalists at the Denmark Open, will face the winners of the match between England''s Callum Hemming-Callum Stallwood and Dutch duo, Ruben Jille-Ties Van Der Lecq for a place in the last eight.

Meanwhile, it wasn't the best of starts for newly formed independent pair, Tan Wee Kiong-Tan Kian Meng. They failed to clear the first round.

Wee Kiong-Kian Meng, playing in only their second tournament after reaching the Dutch Open final earlier this month, lost 21-18, 21-15 to Denmark Open semi-finalists, Mark Lamfuss-Marvin Seidel of Germany.

The Germans will take on world No 1, and newly crowned Thomas Cup winners Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia next.

All was not gloom and doom for Malaysia, as two independent mixed doubles pairs, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai checked into the second round.

Former Olympic silver medallists, Peng Soon-Liu Ying had to slog before carving out a 21-19, 21-19 win over India's Dhruv Kapila-N. Sikki Reddy, while Soon Huat-Shevon notched a 21-9, 21-12 win over New Zealand's Oliver Leydon Davis-Anona Pak.

Soon Huat-Shevon will face Russia's Rodion Alimov-Alina Davletova next, while Peng Soon-Liu Ying are slated to face either Japan's Yuki Kaneko-Misaki Matsutomo or Hong Kong's Chang Tak Ching-Ng Wing Yun.

In women's doubles, independent duo, Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien, fell short in their bid to make an impression on the international stage, losing 21-12, 21-14 to Denmark's Alexandra Bøje-Mette Poulsen in the opening stage.
