Hendra Setiawan is one of Indonesia's most decorated shuttlers, and on Sunday the 37-year-old completed his major trophy collection by captaining his country to their first Thomas Cup title in nearly two decades.

Hendra, a four-time world champion with two different partners, didn't even lift his racquet as Indonesia triumphed 3-0 over 2018 champions China in the final in Aarhus, Denmark, to win their 14th world men's team crown.

Speaking to the press following their historic win, Hendra said: "I feel very happy because this is the first time for me and the entire team.

"We waited 19 years (to lift the Thomas Cup) and finally we can bring it home.

"I don't know, I cannot express this feeling, I'm just happy."

Hendra, who also won the 2008 Olympic gold with the late Markis Kido, featured only once in this year's Thomas Cup, when Indonesia thrashed Algeria 5-0 in their Group A tie.

Like most of the top countries, Indonesia also came to Aarhus with a young but experienced squad.

If there is one thing clear at this year's Thomas Cup, it is that the old guard have passed the baton to their younger compatriots.

For players like Hendra, there is really nothing more to prove.
