LEE Zii Jia's parents are delighted to see their son win his first major international title — the All England on Sunday.

His father, Lee Chee Hin, hopes Zii Jia will continue to win more titles for Malaysia.

"Zii Jia has a long career ahead of him and has ample time to make the country proud again," said Chee Hin in Jitra yesterday.

"I hope he will not be content with what he has achieved.

"Hopefully, he will look ahead and strive for more successes," said Chee Hin who admitted that watching Zii Jia's final against defending champion Viktor Axelsen was nail-biting.

"We felt very tense when watching the All England final, especially after each of them had won a set," added Chee Hin.

He hopes that Malaysians will continue to support his son in future tournaments, especially at the Tokyo Olympics.

Zii Jia's mother, Leow Siet Peng, said she had expected a closely-contested final as her son was up against a vastly experienced player in World No 2 Axelsen.

"As soon as Zii Jia won, I felt very relieved and grateful that he finally proved himself in a major competition," said Siet Peng.

"What he has achieved is the result of a lot of hard work and patience he had put in to overcome the challenges. It is all so worthwhile now.

"He had video-called us after his win (Sunday) to show us the trophy. He wanted us to see it because he cannot bring it home. The trophy will remain in England.

"His name, however, will be engraved on the trophy as a winner," she said.
