A PROPER Feng Shui bathroom encourages both purification and a form of ‘renewal energy’.

Chi, or energy, is akin to water that flows down and out of pipes and drains. So, the first thing is make sure all broken pipes are fixed and water flows down and out of the drain smoothly.

Secondly, your bathroom should be clean, beautiful and clutter-free. It should be a sacred place for purification of the body, mind and spirit. Therefore, discard old, broken and unused items.

Thirdly, you need to keep your bathroom well-ventilated, well-lit and full of healthy colours like arctic blue, earthy or warm grey and clean white or green. These are terrific bathroom colours in Feng Shui, because they represent purification and renewal.

White is a symbol of purity and cleanliness. Blue represents water which cleanses and purifies while green represents life, new growth and new beginnings.

If you want to brighten up your bathroom and bring a fresh feel into the room, you can combine a light paint colour with good lighting.

Fourthly, add life green plants in the bathroom to purify the air and bring vitality and freshness. Putting in flowering plants like lavendar and orchids would add colour.

What to avoid

Everyone loves photographs of themselves, friends or family members but do not add any of them in the bathroom. The same goes for any images relating to your career or passion. In Feng Shui, it is believed that if you place any of these photographs, you’ll be just flushing them down the drain!

Find an image that suits you if you still intend on having one in the bathroom.

After all, a nice image adds a nice feel. You also want to make sure that the bedroom and bathroom is visually separated by using a screen or curtain if necessary.

Don’t keep the toilet lid up. This is to avoid the chi from “escaping”.
