LETTERS: THE Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Fair, the biggest biannual consumer travel fair, was held from March 22 to 24 in Kuala Lumpur.

I visited the fair for discounts and offers. My only contention is that most of the travel and tour packages were tailor-made or designed for a minimum of two persons, either couples or families.

I normally travel alone. Unfortunately, there were no discounted travel packages for solo travellers.

The tour package price consists of flight and ground (hotel stay and food) costs. Most tour packages, though individually priced, are bundled for a minimum of two persons.

Single travellers have to pay the price of two for a single booking.

The tour agents told me that the hotel rooms were booked and catered for two people and there were no single room hotel bookings.

Single people therefore, have to pay for two. This is understandable, but why does one have to pay flight fares for two when only one person is travelling?

Most of the tour package operators discouraged me from buying and some even showed their displeasure.

Hopefully, tour and travel package operators will take the plight of single travellers into consideration for the next fair in September.
