LETTERS: My mother was neglected at an elderly daycare centre.

I requested a refund over the matter but was denied. I have filed a case at the Tribunal Claims Court for a claim of less than RM1,000.

I then lodged a report about the daycare centre with the Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) of the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).

They closed the case on Jan 4, and provided me with an email address and contact number to get further details.

When I called the number provided, the phone was not picked up.

I have tried calling for 28 days. JKM said they took action against the daycare centre but I am unaware of the nature of the action as no one is picking up the phone.

The daycare centre's lawyer has issued a demand letter to me. They failed to care for my mum, yet JKM allowed them to bully those who have no means to get a lawyer when sued.

What justice is this? A government body that is tasked with caring for the elderly is not reachable. It's as if the centre can neglect and abuse people under its care without any action taken against it.

What is the role of SISPAA besides closing cases?

In addition, emails to the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry and the minister's private secretary were also unanswered.
