LETTERS: I began teaching at a school in Felda Jengka 16, Pahang, in 1979. As a young teacher, I was called to serve in the rural area at a time when the nation needed teachers in remote areas.

I continued serving in rural areas for many years before returning to Seremban.

Today, I am a pensioner and ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, I am again moved to serve. The leadership might not comprehend the suffering of the public. Many are struggling to make ends meet.

In 2020, a friend and I decided to reach out to the public to help where we could.

So many families were in dire need of basic necessities. Rice, flour, biscuits and noodles were received by people with joy. I witnessed people breaking down in tears when receiving a bag of rice. I set foot in homes that looked like slums.

Those in need were of all races and religious backgrounds.

With the little funds that we have, from the generosity of friends and donors, we continue to reach out to needy families.

All it takes is a little kindness to lessen people's burden, to reduce the anxiety in their lives and give them hope.
