LETTERS: I was born before our country achieved its Independence. Despite certain hardships, our lives were a a breeze and schooling was great.

I had to stay out of town, in an estate and travel to school which sometimes took hours, but I still enjoyed it. My parents sacrificed a lot to make sure I secured a good education to aid my career in life.

For that I am grateful, I have lived my life and made sure that my children thrive in this country. Now that I have grandchildren, I want to make sure that their future is secured in this prosperous country.

I love my country and I am proud of it. It has given me joy and provided me with a good life. I am grateful that I have been given the opportunity to serve.

Today, however, when I hear the voices claiming that we are a failing state, i find it simply unacceptable. Yes, I admit that we are struggling with both political and major health crises.

What do we do about that? I am not prepared to tell my grandsons that I did not do what was necessary to put things right. We are at a crossroads now and we have to decide what direction would be best for the country.

I am willing to put aside my personal believes and political convictions to make sure Malaysia will survive this economic and pandemic setback.

All we need is to put our political agendas aside and work together in the next few months so that we can emerge from these depressing times.

I would like to invite all fellow lawmakers to the table, let's sit, discuss and use all of our expertise; irrespective of race or religion to make sure we emerge victorious. Set aside politics for the people.

I am aware that my suggestion is more easily said then done, but if we don't try, we will never know what we would be able to achieve. Are all of you ready at this point? I am ready for sure. Let's make it happen.

Let's make sure that our children, grandchildren and most importantly the people not say we failed them because of our ego and personal agenda.
