KUALA KUBU BAHARU: Perikatan Nasional (PN) campaign materials for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election have demonstrated the coalition's message to the unity government to address the welfare of the people, says its candidate Khairul Azhari Saut.

He emphasised that PN's campaign was focused on national issues affecting people across the country, not just within the constituency.

He highlighted that national issues such as the rising cost of living and economic challenges impact people nationwide, and the by-election provided an opportunity for their voices to be heard by the government for evaluation and action.

"As we know, national issues do not happen in one specific area only, but (it happens) nationwide, regardless of whether there is an election in that area or not.

"Therefore, national issues like the rising cost of living, the economy (situation) and so on all have an impact on the people.

"Hence, we should unite to convey to the current government the current situation, and how difficult it is for the people.

"(And) since we are having a by-election, (we hope) our voices will be heard and that the government can evaluate this matter," he said when met by reporters, today.

Responding to allegations of playing racial cards, Khairul Azhari denied such claims, saying that PN, during its administration, considered the views of all Malaysians irrespective of race, religion, or political affiliation.

He said it was the inclusive approach of PN's leadership under Tan Sri Muhyiddin, the former prime minister.

"I disagree with those who say that PN is playing the race sentiment issue (in the election) because the supporters know (how) our chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin, who was the prime minister (works).

Khairul Azhari will go against Pakatan Harapan's Pang Sock Tao, Parti Rakyat Malaysia's Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin in a four-corner fight in the by-election, taking place on May 11.

The by-election was triggered by the passing of its DAP's three-term assemblywoman, Lee Kee Hiong, who battled with cancer.

In the Selangor state election last year, Lee helped DAP, a component party of PH, to retain Kuala Kubu Baharu after she polled a majority of 4,119 votes in a four-cornered fight at the state seat.
