YAN: Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor insists that his apologies to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and ministers yesterday were sincere gestures.

The Perikatan Nasional election director stressed that such actions were consistent with his character, as he treats elders with respect.

Hence, he dismissed any criticism of his sincerity as stemming from ill intentions.

"Yes, if I meet anyone, especially elders, anywhere, that's just how I am. I'm not pretending. I'm being my authentic self.

"I've seen comments on social media... when you do good, it's wrong. When you don't, it's still wrong, so they're all devils.

"If doing good deeds among humanity isn't appreciated, then it's the work of devils," he told reporters.

Sanusi urged his critics to follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad and refrain from making improper remarks.

"It's our job as Muhammad's followers in this era to do as much good as possible, genuinely... this should be encouraged.

"When people feel aggrieved by seeing something good, it inherits demonic traits, so stop acting like devils," he added.

He added that the respectful treatment of federal government leaders was in line with Islamic guidance.

"As they (federal leaders) are our guests in our territory, it's 'wajib' (religiously obligated) that we show them respect. It's wajib what the Prophet says about this, there's a hadith on this," he added.

During yesterday's Kedah Madani Aidilfitri celebration 2024 held at Tasik Darulaman, Sanusi extended apologies on behalf of himself and the state government to Anwar for any inappropriate remarks while carrying out his duties as the menteri besar. Sanusi also extended the same apologies to members of the cabinet, acknowledging that mistakes are inevitable as a fallible human being.
