HULU SELANGOR: Cameron Highlands member of Parliament Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor expressed confidence that the majority of Orang Asli in Kuala Kubu Baharu would support Pakatan Harapan in the upcoming by-election.

"In my view, from the beginning, the Orang Asli community has held BN in high regard, and therefore, I believe that with the Orang Asli community's consideration (in choosing their representative).

"If everyone turns out to vote, I am confident that 80 to 90 per cent of the votes will be in favour of the Pakatan Harapan candidate," he said when met at Kampung Gerachi Jaya here after Sembang Santai with the Orang Asli community today.

Also present was Seputeh member of parliament Teresa Kok.

Ramli said that in the remaining seven days of campaigning, he intends to reach out and engage with the Orang Asli residents from other villages in Kuala Kubu Baharu.

There are 1,279 Orang Asli voters from seven villages in Kuala Kubu Baharu, namely Kampung Kolam Air, Kampung Tun Abdul Razak, Kampung Kuala Kerling, Kampung Sungai Jang, Kampung Pertak, Kampung Gerachi Jaya and Kampung Buloh Telor.

Earlier, during his speech, Ramli, who is the Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker said, he was living proof that the current administration gave room for Orang Asli to be a leader, unlike the previous administration.

"Now, BN and PH are friends, and this coalition provides an opportunity for Orang Asli like me to become a member of parliament, after more than 60 years. This has never happened before.

"Therefore, I humbly request your support in voting for candidate number 2 (PH candidate). If the residents (voters) do not favour that candidate, it is alright, just remember my face," he said.

Ramli said if it were not for PH's assistance during the Pelangai by-election, the party would have faced severe difficulties.

"In the current situation, I see that, God willing, this leadership will continue in the same direction until the 16th general-election," he said.
