KUALA KUBU BARU: The display of signage merging the logos of Umno and DAP  during the nomination for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election recently, was a manifestation of the grassroots sentiments rejecting the coalition between the parties, said Perikatan Nasional's Muhammad Hilman Idham.

He said these sentiments should not be solely blamed on PN as they might originate from Umno supporters themselves.

He said he would leave the matter to the police for investigation following a report from Umno Youth yesterday.

"What occurred was a manifestation of Umno sentiments, indicating that their grassroots members do not endorse the party's cooperation with DAP. These sentiments should not be attributed to us, as they may have originated within their party ranks.

"We do not harbor hostility towards Umno, and we believe that party members support PN in this election," he told reporters during a  press conference today.

When questioned about PN's awareness of the signage during the nomination day, Hilman said they might have overlooked it amidst the numerous other signs displayed that day.

"There were many banners that day, and we were not aware of all of them. Everyone present expressed their feelings; there should not be any sense of oppression, and the freedom of the people to criticise should not be restricted."

Yesterday, Selangor Umno Youth filed a police report over signage merging the Umno and DAP logos allegedly carried by Perikatan Nasional supporters during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election nominations.

Selangor Umno Youth secretary Shah Zanuriman Nuar Paras Khan said it was aimed at stoking ill-will or hostility, an offence under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh also criticised the signage spotted on Saturday, saying PN should campaign with ideas and arguments instead of insulting their rivals.
