KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional has no issues with fielding any candidate from the unity government in the upcoming Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

Its secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the candidate chosen was based on an understanding among component parties within the unity government, whether from BN, Pakatan Harapan, or others.

"The unity government is built on a foundation of understanding and the spirit of cooperation. This foundation has to be preserved and nurtureed.

"It is important for us to prevent from issuing any statements that would shake the foundation and understanding within this government.

"Each party needs to think thoroughly before making any comments. Each problem that happens must be resolved collectively and through internal discussions among related parties," he said in a statement tonight.

He added that BN would not let the opposition win in the May 11 by-election, and said it remained committed to ensure that the unity government candidate would emerge victorious.

"BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has also stated his and BN's commitment to support the unity government's candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.

"This by-election will bring a new dimension to the politics of moderation and the country's stability."

Zambry, who is also Higher Education Minister, said moderate politics was important to ensure the sustainability and efforts of the unity government that prioritise stability for all facets of society in Malaysia.
