SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took a jab at those seeking to sow discord among leaders of parties in the unity government.

"To this group of people, I want to say this to them, 'Good luck and goodbye'," he said in a speech at PKR's 25th anniversary celebrations here today.

"It (efforts to divide parties in the unity government) will never work."

The unity government remains "solid and unshaken", said the prime minister.

"As of today, there are no indications of any cracks between Pakatan Harapan (PH), Umno, Barisan Nasional, or the parties representing Sabah and Sarawak, which are aligned with the unity government."

Without naming anyone, Anwar said the attempts to sow discord in the unity government were the work of "desperados" seeking to make a "big fuss" about the government he leads.

The statement by Anwar, who is PH chairman and PKR president, put an end to rumours suggesting that all is not well among parties in the unity government following the issue surrounding the existence of an addendum order from the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong allowing Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

In his speech at the event, Anwar also hit out at critics for accusing the unity government of not implementing any changes or reforms to transform the country.

The government, he said, is highly committed to implementing reforms and changes, which would be implemented according to its capability.

Anwar stressed that the unity government would never compromise on matters concerning the independence of the judiciary and the authority of law enforcement bodies to carry out their duties without political interference.

"At present, our judiciary is independent. In fact, there has not been a single (court) case where I called the chief justice (Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat) or had discussions to resolve it.

"Wisdom (is needed) to maintain (safeguards to the federal administration), not to overthrow the existing government. We will make changes but the progress and speed depend on our capability," he said.

The prime minister added that unity government leaders have also reached an agreement to uphold good governance in their effort to eradicate corruption in the country.

"(Deputy Prime Minister) Datuk (Seri Dr Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi); Abang Jo (Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg) or the Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor... all of them understand and they agree that if any among us violates principles of governance and get involved in corruption, they will be expelled and face legal proceedings," he said.
