KUALA LUMPUR: Six Bersatu members of Parliament who have declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim have yet to receive a letter from Perikatan Nasional component over their stand.

Bukit Gantang MP, Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, said he and five other MPs were still waiting for the letter.

This comes after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would take action against its rebel elected representatives after Hari Raya.

Syed Abu Hussin said he was not bothered by calls from other Bersatu leaders to vacate his seat over his stand.

"All I know is that I haven't received it (letter from Bersatu)," he said, adding none of the other MPs who backed Anwar received the letter," he told Berita Harian.

"I am carrying on as usual. This is my right as an MP as enshrined in the Federal Constitution. No one can stop me (from carrying out his duties as an MP)".

Six Bersatu MPs and one assemblyman have gone against their party and pledged support for Anwar.

They include Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjung Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

Earlier this month, the Registrar of Societies (RoS) approved an amendment to Bersatu's constitution that sees elected representatives who go against the party automatically ceasing to be a member.

Previously, Muhyiddin said this would automatically trigger a by-election.
