KOTA BARU: A joint machinery team between all parties in Perikatan Nasional (PN) will be set up as preparation to face the Kuala Kubu Bharu by-election.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the team would be headed by the coalition's Selangor election director.

He confirmed that PN would field its candidate in the by-election following the death of its assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong recently.

"Pas would like to express our deepest condolences to Lee's family for their loss.

"As what had been agreed in PN's Supreme Council meeting on Monday, we will take part in the by-election and field PN candidate.

"The issue of who will be the candidate will be decided later," he told the NST.

The Kubang Kerian member of parliament said a trend study would will be conducted by an independent body to verify the main problems of the people in the constituency.

"PN needs to work hard to achieve victory. It is not impossible for us to capture Kuala Kubu Bharu if we work hard," he said.

Lee, who was from DAP succumbed to cancer last Thursday.

He had beaten Gerakan's Teoh Kien Hong by a 4,119-vote majority in last year's Selangor state election.

On Tuesday, Selangor Pas chief Datuk Ab Halim Tamuri said the party is ready to face the upcoming by-election in Kuala Kubu Baru.

Admitting that the candidate will contest under PN ticket, he had said the Islamist party will always be on their toes, and also guaranteed that there will be media freedom once Pas and PN were given a chance to rule Selangor and the federal government.
