KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi wants MCA and DAP to resolve their differences on their own.

Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister, described differences in opinion as a normal process in politics.

"A similar situation happened in the past when two parties representing the Chinese community in BN; MCA and Gerakan had to resolve their disagreements on their own.

"The same goes in this situation, MCA and DAP need to resolve their differences in opinion on their own," he said when met after chairing a coordination meeting between the Rural and Regional Development Ministry and the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) today.

Zahid said this when asked to comment on leaders from both parties responding to each other's statements, including on social media.

Present was Felda chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

MCA has been outspoken when it comes to certain government policies, leading DAP to issue statements against MCA.

Recently, DAP vice-chairman Teresa Kok labelled MCA as "lost" (sesat), in response to MCA's attacks against her party.

She said that in an interview with a Malay daily when she was asked to comment on DAP's current relations with MCA as parties under the unity government.

Yesterday, MCA vice-president Ti Lian Ker in a Facebook post said while the party may be "lost", it however refrained from mocking or demeaning its political rivals, remaining steadfast in unity during challenging times.

Ti said MCA did not seek alliances or opponents for political convenience but stood by its principles.

Meanwhile, commenting on claims that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has already obtained sufficient numbers of statutory declarations (SD) to overthrow the unity government, Zahid said the declarations were invalid.

On allegations of BN-Umno members of Parliament who signed the SD, Zahid said the matter did not arise as the SD did not exist.
