KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan has issued a stern warning that legal action will be taken against those who link the party with a drug trafficking syndicate in Sabah.

Party secretary general Datuk Loretto Padua said the accusations were baseless because it was intended to slander and tarnish the reputation of Warisan and its leaders.

"If such allegations persist, Warisan will not hesitate to take legal action against those implicating the party in any illegal activities or syndicates that violate the law or spread defamation," said Loretto.

He issued the statement following a viral message circulating on social media claiming that Warisan receives funds from a drug syndicate that had been smashed by the police.

This was following a case which was revealed by police yesterday.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay had said a 'Datuk' was among the 10 syndicate members arrested in a joint operation between the Bukit Aman Narcotics department and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) yesterday.

Loretto said Warisan applauds the police's and Esscom's success in smashing one of the biggest drug trafficking syndicates in Sabah.

He the party will leave it to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and charge those involved in accordance with the law.
