CHUKAI: The hacking of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate General (B) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor's Facebook account is viewed as a desperate attempt by some to weaken voters' support in the Kemaman by-election (PRK).

BN's PRK Kemaman election machinery director, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, expressed dismay at the incident, especially as Affandi's popularity is on the rise approaching the polling day this Saturday.

"As a result, I have directed reports to be filed with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) so that investigations can be carried out, and appropriate action taken against the perpetrators.

"I believe incidents like this will not dampen the spirits of Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi and the entire party machinery who have worked tirelessly to ensure BN's victory in this PRK," he said here today.

The Kemaman PRK sees Affandi facing Terengganu Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, representing PAS.

The election was held following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sep 26 to nullify the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 15th General Election (GE15).

In GE15, Alias won the Kemaman Parliamentary seat with 65,714 votes, defeating the Terengganu UMNO chairman, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, who received 38,535 votes with a majority of 27,179 votes.
