KEMAMAN: PAS is anticipating another whopping majority victory in the Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election, surpassing the 27,000-vote majority achieved during the 15th general election (GE15) last November.

Its vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad said he believes that voters, especially young people, still support Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PAS.

"The Umno people whom I met told me that they did not know the chosen candidate (from Barisan Nasional)... 'dok dang mikir' (did not have time to think) how Mat Said (Terengganu Umno chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Said) could choose such a candidate.

"But, this time they already know 27,000 (the GE15 majority), not 2,700 and not 27 votes. We do not want to brag, but I am sure it will increase to a 30,000 majority," he said during the Ceramah Perdana at Ibok here yesterday.

The Bagan Serai member of parliament said he believes that the voters' sentiments were not with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Umno.

"What can the people expect? Expecting the price of goods to go down... not fluctuating but just mere promises.

"Therefore, I hope the people in Kemaman will maintain the 8-0 victory (all parliaments under PAS) with the condition that all parties must continue to work hard," he said.

On Nov 18, Amanah vice-president Adly Zahari said the 27,000-vote majority secured by the PN in GE15 could drop as the BN candidate holds the advantage as a local personality and a former Armed Forces chief.

He said Kemaman is BN's traditional seat, and PAS only won the constituency for the first time, with a 2,000 majority votes during the 14th general election.

The Kemaman parliamentary seat by-election is a straight fight between Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar from PN and Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, who was picked to represent BN in the Dec 2 polls.

The by-election was called following the decision of the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 to annul the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the GE15.

PAS managed a clean sweep of the parliamentary seats in Terengganu in the GE15, winning all eight and securing all 32 state seats for the first time during the state polls in August.
