SHAH ALAM: Selangor opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has turned down a vehicle provided to him by the state government.

Instead he has requested for a few necessities for the opposition leader's office including printers and computers.

"The opposition leader's office at present has not been provided nor equipped with the necessary facilities.

"I am thankful to the Menteri Besar for providing a new vehicle for the opposition leader.

"But for me, that is not what I prioritise. I have decided not to accept the vehicle and I have returned it to the state government.

"What I really need is facilities such as photocopiers, printers and computers because such equipment can help elected representatives to be more effective in carrying out the role of checks and balances," he told the Selangor state legislative assembly sitting here yesterday.

Azmin also brought up the fact that the state government needs to provide an allocation to appoint researchers to help the elected representatives obtain precise data and facts.

"Secondly what is needed are a few researchers who can help the state legislative assemblymen and assemblywomen as this is because many of them are new be it those in government and the opposition.

"It would be good if the state legislative assembly can be given support by means of more allocation so that we can appoint more researchers to help the elected representatives to carry out research so that their presentations and debates can be better understood and appreciated.

"Our state government can give aid and assistance to ensure that our debates and discussions are based on data, statistics, and facts that can help the state government to further develop the state that we all love," he said.
