PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) is set to conduct a party election in the second quarter of next year.

Muda's acting president, Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, said that while Muda has the authority to extend party elections until 2025, as stipulated in the Societies Act 1996, the party deems it timely to hold elections sooner.

"We understand that many are eager to know when Muda will hold party elections. However, considering the current circumstances, I believe party elections should be held in 2024.

"This decision aims to usher in a new chapter for Muda, as we believe that the youth leadership also requires a fresh mandate from all Muda members to propel our party forward," she announced during today's press conference.

Amira Aisya believed that the party election would enable its members to lead and serve the party in a better direction.

"As a forward-looking party, we must continue nurturing individuals who will contribute positively to the nation through the Muda platform.

"The upcoming party elections seek to assess the maturity of this party in organisational politics with the involvement of members from every level across the country," she added.

Amira Aisya also emphasised that Muda will initiate a rejuvenation exercise following recent developments within the party.

This decision was reached during the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting on Nov 17.

"Based on the decision of the CEC, Muda will immediately embark on the rejuvenation agenda," she said.

"The focus of the rejuvenation exercise will be on addressing internal matters over external issues," she added.

This includes reviewing membership and members' commitments and advancing the "Sekolah Muda" agenda.

Amira Aisya also said she will hold official meetings with Muda members in all states over the next 100 days.

The schedule and timetable for these meetings will be announced soon.

"Preparation for Muda's activities in 2024 will also be the main focus during the upcoming 100 days.

"Muda would like to thank all party members and supporters during this leadership transition period," she said.
